PCOS Is a common condition and it’s thought that it affects 1 in 10 women. However, this could be higher as PCOS is hard to diagnose.

Polycystic ovaries contain a large number of harmless follicles that are up to 8mm in size. These follicles are underdeveloped sacs in which the egg develops. These sacs are often unable to to release an egg - this means that ovulation doesn’t take place.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

HOW MANY SESSIONS WILL I NEED?

If you have PCOS, facial hair can be more hormonally driven, which means it usually requires more sessions.

For facial areas, most PCOS clients should expect a minimum of 12 sessions, spaced correctly, to see a significant and long-term reduction in hair growth. Ongoing maintenance sessions will be required to help maintain results.

At The Laser Co, we’re completely honest about this from the start. During your consultation, we’ll assess your hair type, skin, growth pattern, and medical history, then create a realistic, personalised treatment plan designed to get the best possible results while protecting your skin.

While laser isn’t a “cure” for PCOS, it can be life changing in reducing hair thickness, density, shadowing, and the need for daily hair removal; helping you feel more confident and in control.

HOW OFTEN WILL I NEED A SESSION?

For facial laser hair removal with PCOS, we typically begin treatments every 4–6 weeks. This timing allows us to target the hair effectively while working in line with your natural growth cycle.

As your treatment progresses and hair growth becomes finer, slower, and less dense, we’ll gradually increase the time between sessions. This helps prevent overstimulation of hormonally driven hair and allows us to move you towards a maintenance stage.

Maintenance sessions vary from person to person, but they’re usually needed less frequently to keep results stable long term.

IS LASER HAIR REMOVAL PAINFUL?

At The Laser Co, we offer virtually pain-free laser hair removal using our advanced Initia Diode Laser, a state of the art system designed for effective results with maximum comfort.

Our laser technology features two treatment modes, allowing us to tailor each session to the area being treated. Smaller or more detailed areas are treated with our standard mode, while larger areas benefit from our motion mode, ensuring efficient, precise, and comfortable treatments across the face and body.

To enhance comfort, the Initia Diode Laser is equipped with a –8°C cooling Ice Tip, which helps to protect the skin and reduce discomfort before, during, and after treatment. Clients typically describe the sensation in motion mode as a gentle warmth, while the standard mode may feel similar to a mild elastic band flick.

The majority of clients find the standard mode very comfortable, and treatments are always adjusted to suit your skin type, hair type, and individual comfort levels.

MY HAIR IS THICK & COARSE, WILL IT HELP?

Yes. Laser hair removal is most effective on thick, coarse hair, as this hair type contains a higher level of melanin (pigment). The laser targets this pigment within the hair follicle, allowing energy to be absorbed more effectively and leading to better hair reduction results.

Clients with thick or coarse hair often notice faster visible improvement, including reduced density, slower regrowth, and finer hair over time. During your consultation at The Laser Co, we assess your hair and skin type to ensure the safest settings are used for optimal, long-term results.

WILL LASER HAIR REMOVAL WORK ON GREY, WHITE OR BLONDE HAIR?

No. Laser hair removal is not effective on grey, white, or blonde hair. This is because these hair colours contain little to no melanin (pigment), which is essential for the laser to detect and safely target the hair follicle.

Laser technology works by absorbing pigment within the hair. Without sufficient pigment, the laser cannot effectively destroy the follicle, meaning results will not be achieved.

During your consultation at The Laser Co, we carry out a thorough assessment of your hair and skin type to ensure laser hair removal is the right and safest option for you. If laser is not suitable, we will always offer honest advice and discuss alternative treatment options where appropriate.

CAN YOU TREAT ALL SKIN TYPES?

Yes. At The Laser Co, inclusivity is at the heart of what we do. We are proud to offer laser hair removal suitable for all skin types, using advanced technology that allows treatments to be tailored safely and effectively.

Our Initia Diode Laser enables us to adjust settings based on individual skin type, hair type, and treatment area, ensuring optimal results while prioritising skin safety. Every client receives a thorough consultation and patch test, allowing us to create a personalised treatment plan that aligns with your skin’s needs.

Our goal is to provide safe, effective, and inclusive laser hair removal, delivered in a professional, judgement-free environment where everyone feels confident and cared for.

IS THE PRE/POST AFTERCARE IMPORTANT?

Yes, pre and post treatment aftercare is essential to ensure the best possible results from your laser hair removal treatment and to keep your skin safe throughout the process.

Following the recommended aftercare guidelines helps to maximise results, reduce the risk of irritation, and support proper skin healing before and after each session. This includes preparation prior to treatment and correct care in the days following your appointment.

At The Laser Co, full pre and post aftercare instructions are provided, and our team is always happy to support you. If you have any questions or concerns at any stage of your treatment journey, please email us at thelaserco1@gmail.com and we’ll be happy to help.
